Technological excellence meets user-centricity

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s leading universities. To keep pace with continuous growth and high quality standards, Ergosign supported TUM in establishing TUM Living—an exclusive, centralized housing platform for students, staff, and faculty. Through a holistic process spanning from initial concept to technical implementation, an accessible platform was created that replaces fragmented legacy systems and elevates the search for housing to a new digital level.

Digital excellence for the housing search

The challenge

To support the ongoing growth of the Technical University of Munich, the housing matchmaking process needed a modern overhaul. The challenge lay in consolidating an organic system landscape of disparate channels and replacing it with a modern, user-centric portal that facilitates efficient, state-of-the-art communication between the university, students, and staff.

Holistic, agile, and user-centric

Our approach

From the very beginning, we involved an interdisciplinary team to cover the entire design and development process—from requirements analysis to full-stack development. Using stakeholder mapping, benchmarking, and user journeys, we developed a deep understanding of the needs of diverse user groups. Through an agile process, feedback from pilot users was gathered early on to continuously optimize the solution and achieve a fast time-to-MVP.

A secure, intuitive, and accessible platform

The result

TUM Living resulted in a modern, responsive React web application that combines technological security with a first-class user experience. The platform consolidates the legacy system landscape and provides a future-proof foundation for exclusive housing matchmaking.

  • Smart Search & UX: Students can quickly find suitable properties via an interactive map featuring neighborhood information and public transit connections. Logins are handled seamlessly using TUM credentials.

  • Efficient Landlord & Content Management for TUM Staff: An integrated verification process for landlords and an intuitive CMS for role management noticeably optimize workflows for editorial teams.

  • Accessibility: The solution offers a consistent and inclusive user experience for all target groups.

  • Integrated Communication: Inquiries can be sent directly through the system, with text templates accelerating the process.
